PM Bliznashki: "Preparations for Elections
on Schedule, More than Half of Ballots Printed
amidst Tightest Security"

Sofia, September 14 (BTA) - "The preparations for the election
process proceed on schedule," Bulgarian Prime Minister Georgi
Bliznashki said on Sunday, quoted by the Government Information
Service. "More than half of the ballot papers have already been
printed amidst the tightest security. Organizing the new voting
sections that are to be opened abroad is in progress. We are
making enormous efforts to mobilize the administration so as to
be sure that there will be no abuses during the elections,"
Bliznashki added.

He also highlighted the successful work of the Citizens Board
for Free and Transparent Elections, which involves more than 40
NGOs. In the PM's words, thanks to the work of the Board one of
the myths of the Bulgarian transition has been debunked: about
the existence of "ghost voters" in the electoral rolls.

Bliznashki talked to journalists in the Village of Golesh near
Silistra (Northeastern Bulgaria) where, together with Education
and Science Minister Rumyana Kolarova, he opened new facilities
at the Vassil Aprilov Basic School. "The school year will start
normally in all disaster-hit areas. In this respect, we have
managed to cope with the effects of the disasters," the Prime
Minister said.

He recalled that the caretaker Cabinet has applied for more than
300 million euro in aid from the European Commission to finance
flood damage control in Bulgaria. "We expect to receive a
percentage of these funds. Hopefully, this will happen sooner
and that's what we are trying to suggest to the EU
institutions."

Bliznashki added that the State continues to provide aid to the
areas where damages have not yet been applied for. SN/LG
