Bulgaria Does Not Acknowledge
Russian Federation, Breakaway Abkhasia Region
Partnership Accord

Sofia, November 27 (BTA) - The so-called strategic partnership
accord between the Russian Federation and the breakaway Abkhasia
region, signed on November 24, is a threat to security and will
have a negative effect on the efforts to stabilise those part
of the Caucasian region, a press release of the Foreign Ministry
Spokesperson said Thursday.

The accord violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of
Georgia, contradicts the principles of international law and
the international commitments undertaken by Moscow, including
the Agreement signed with Georgia on August 12, 2008, as well as
the Agreement on its implementation signed on September 8,
2008.

Bulgaria has repeatedly expressed full support for the
sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within the
internationally recognised borders. There is no change in its
position on South Ossetia and Abkhasia - Bulgaria does not
recognize the new quasi-state formations or the results of the
elections held two years ago, nor does it maintain direct
contacts with their political leadership, the press release
said.

A solution of the conflicts in Georgia - and the Caucasus as a
whole - can only be found by peaceful means. Bulgaria supports
the dialogue in the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability
in Transcaucasia and considers that not using force lies at the
basis of settling the conflict./PK/BR
