Bulgarian Expatriates Demand Transparent Appointments
in Agency for Bulgarians Abroad,
Online Voting and Separate Constituency
Sofia, November 27 (BTA) - Bulgarian expatriates have sent a
letter to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Deputy Prime
Minister Meglena Kuneva urging for an open competition for the
new leadership of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, online
voting and a separate constituency.
Copies have been sent to President Rosen Plevneliev, Ombudsman
Konstantin Penchev, the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and
the media.
The letter calls for a transparent procedure for appointing the
Agency leadership whose rules should be agreed with expatriate
associations and an end to political appointments.
The letter recalls that a check by the Oresharski cabinet how
Bulgarian citizenship is awarded found that there are no rules,
thus giving rise to corruption and undermining the Agency's
reputation.
The authors of the letter call for revisions to the Election
code to introduce online voting and a separate constituency for
Bulgarians living abroad.
The letter has been signed by 40 Bulgarians from Spain, the UK,
Japan, Australia, France, the USA, Austria,Israel, Germany and
Italy. PK/PP
