FBI Director James B. Comey: Criminals Have Made the World Smaller via the Internet


Sofia, March 4 (BTA) - After meeting with Prime Minister Boyko
Borissov, FBI Director James B. Comey, who is visiting Bulgaria
on Wednesday, said: "Increasingly, criminals have shrunk the
world, they have made the world small, especially by virtue of
their operations on the Internet. On the Internet, Bulgaria and
America are next door neighbours, and if we are to fight the
scourge of crime, especially cyber crime and terrorism, we must
shrink the world so that no one can find safe haven simply by
being on the other side of the Earth from the people that they
victimize."

Comey said that he is at the beginning of his ten-year term as
FBI Director. He said it was very important that he visit
Bulgaria at this point: "We work together across all of the
FBI's responsibilities that make an enormous difference in the
life of my country, and I hope in the life of Bulgaria." This
ten-year term ensures that the director brings continuity to a
very important organization in American life. "By virtue of that
 fixed term, the FBI Director is able to stand outside of
significant political influence and meet our responsibilities
for fighting organized crime, terrorism, cyber crime and many
other things in a way that is professional and non-political."

Comey added that he knows the Bulgarian Prime Minister thinks of
 that in the way that he does, and thinks that the way they have
 approached it in the United States makes good sense. "So it is
very exciting for me to be here at the beginning of my decade in
 office, I will be back multiple times given the importance of
our relationship with Bulgaria and the Bulgarian services."

Boyko Borissov said the two talked about the fight with
organized crime, cyber crime, and joint operations conducted in
the past. He said he was confident the good interaction
inherited from the previous FBI director would continue and
James Comey would be a good friend in the joint operations.
