Household Loans Up 19%, Deposits 12.2% at End-June, Y/Y
Household Loans Up 19%, Deposits 12.2% at End-June, Y/Y

Deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) increased by 12.2% and loans went up by 19% at the end of June compared to the like period of 2023, show Bulgarian National Bank data published Tuesday. The deposits of households and NPISHs amounted to BGN 83.781 billion (42.8% of GDP) in late June.

Deposits of non-financial corporations totalled BGN 44.238 billion (22.6% of GDP), up by 9.1% from the end of June 2023.

Deposits of financial corporations decreased by 11.6% annually in June 2024 and at the end of the month amounted to BGN 3.413 billion (1.7% of GDP).

At the end of June 2024, deposits of the non-government sector were BGN 131.433 billion (67.1% of GDP), increasing annually by 10.4%.

At the end of June 2024, claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 96.366 billion (49.2% of GDP). They increased by 13.6% annually. The central bank explained that the change of loans to the non-government sector was influenced also by net sales of loans by other monetary financial institutions (Other MFIs) – their volume for the last twelve months was BGN 111.1 million. On an annual basis, loans sold by other MFIs were BGN 111.1 million (of which BGN 7.3 million in June 2024), while there were no loans repurchases for the last twelve months.

In June 2024, loans to non-financial corporations increased by 8.5% annually and at the end of the month amounted to BGN 46.195 billion (23.6% of GDP), data shows.

Loans to households and NPISHs were BGN 42.221 billion (21.6% of GDP) at the end of June 2024. Loans for house purchases were BGN 22.319 billion and increased by 24.8% year on year. Consumer loans amounted to BGN 18.188 billion, up by 14% from June 2023.

On an annual basis other loans (including loans granted to associations of owners in accordance with the National Programme for Energy Efficiency of Multi-family Residential Buildings) increased by 5.8% and reached BGN 419.9 million.

Loans to sole proprietorships and partnerships without legal status increased annually by 8.9%, reaching BGN 470.5 million.

Loans granted to financial corporations amounted to BGN 7.950 billion at the end of June 2024 (4.1% of GDP). Compared to June 2023, they increased by 17.2%.
