to Perform in "Carmen"
on March 30


Sofia, March 5 (BTA) - World-famous opera singers Carla Dirlikov
and Mario Malagnini will perform in a production of Carmen in
Sofia on March 30 as part of a series of super productions,
presented by Monte Music and the Rousse Opera. The Bulgarian
cast includes Alexander Krounev and Maria Tsvetkova.

Nayden Todorov will conduct the opera, directed by Christian
Mihailesku.

Mezzosoprano Dirlikov, who is born to a Bulgarian father and a
Mexican mother, will make her Bulgarian debut. Dirlikov is an
alumna of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where she
studied with Bill Schuman. She received a Bachelor of Music
degree from the University of Michigan, where she studied with
Shirley Verrett. She continued her studies at the Conservatoire
National de Paris, and completed her Master of Music in Opera
Performance degree at McGill University in Montreal.

Italian tenor Mario Malagnini is famous for his performances in
Tosca and The Troubadour. PK/PP
