Atanas Ilkov was nominated to take over as Minister of Interior.

Ilkov was born in Pazardzhik on December 20, 1964.

Joined the system of the Ministry of Interior in 1987. Worked at the Pazardzhik Regional Directorate of Interior, Criminal Police, headed Sector Operative Support for Detention Places, as well as the Criminal Police Department at the Criminal Police Directorate.

Appointed head of the Criminal Police Department at the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior in July 2016. Headed the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior a year later. Head of the Kardzhali Regional Directorate of Interior since July 2019. Head of the Centre for Specialisation and Professional Training - Kazanlak since 2020.

Appointed Deputy Director of General Directorate National Police on August 2, 2021. Head of General Directorate National Police since October 2022.

Completed his higher education at Neofit Rilski South-West University in Blagoevgrad. Specialized at law enforcement academies in Budapest and Roswell, New Mexico.
