site.btaPassenger Train Engine Catches Fire at Chirpan
The engine of a Plovdiv-Varna passenger train caught fire on Sunday night, the press office of Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) told BTA. Before reaching Chirpan, the train staff noticed sparkles under the body of the engine. Actions were taken immediately to stop the train and to apply the fire extinguishers.
An alert was sent to the Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate General, which sent people to the scene to take safety measures, BDZ said.
The passengers were transported to Plovdiv by bus. The causes of the situation remain to be identified.
