Passengers Handled by Sofia Airport Increase by 4.6% in February 2015, Year on Year

Sofia, March 16 (BTA) - In February, the shortest month of the
year, Sofia Airport handled 270,622 passengers, up by 4.6 per
cent from a year earlier, the airport's administration said.

Scheduled international passenger services to/from Sofia Airport
in February 2015 recorded a notable growth of 6.3 per cent to
246,115 people, up by 14,588 people compared with February 2014.
Domestic passengers decreased by 3 per cent. Tourists
transported by seasonal chartered services decreased by 2,000
people.

During the month in review, the number of airplane landings and
takeoffs serviced by Sofia Airport increased by 2.5 per cent
from a year earlier, reaching 3,052. Commercial passenger
aircraft landings and takeoffs rose by 32 per cent, while those
performed by cargo planes fell by 12 per cent.

The amount of cargo and mail handled by the airport went up by
5.6 per cent. The cargo amounted to 1,343 tonnes, up from 1,272
tonnes. Despite the fall in cargo flights, the cargo transported
by such flights rose by 16 per cent, year on year, while the
cargo transported by passenger planes fell by 5 per cent.

The summer timetable of Sofia Airport will become effective on
March 28, offering new travel opportunities. At the beginning of
May, carrier Swiss International will restore its scheduled
service between Zurich and Sofia. Direct flights to Southern
Italy will become available again, with Mistral Air flying not
only to Catania but also to Bari.
