Bulgaria, Algeria Sign Defence Cooperation Agreement
Algiers, September 29 (BTA) - Defence Minister Nikolai Nenchev
opened his official visit to Algeria on Tuesday, the Defence
Ministry said.
Nenchev conferred with Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, Vice
Minister of Defence and chief of staff of the Algerian People's
National Army. The two signed a defence cooperation agreement.
"Today we are reviving a cooperation which has a long history,"
said Nenchev during the ceremony. "I believe that this will
further exchange in military education and military medicine,"
he added.
The two voiced a willingness for exchange of military
information. Nenchev and his host General Salah discussed the
problems with terrorism.
"I believe that we are sending a clear sign to our two peoples
and the world that we can cooperate and work together in the
fight against terrorism," said Nenchev. According to him,
military experts from both countries should look for common
points. He extended an invitation for joint participation and
exercises.
"Today, terrorism is a global issue and we should seek support
from the whole peace loving community," said Nenchev.
General Salah said that the visit by the Bulgarian delegation,
led by Minister Nenchev, is a visit at the highest level after a
long break. "I believe that this agreement will give a new
impetus to our relations," he added.
