TTIP Can't Impose US Standards in Europe - Economy Ministry
Sofia, September 30 (BTA) - The Transantlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP) can't impose US standards in
Europe and in Bulgaria respectively, said Deputy Economy
Ministry Lyuben Petrov on Wednesday during a meeting with Jolana
Mungengova, policy assistant to EU Commissioner Cecilia
Malmstrom. An interdepartamental working group on the TTIP
negotiations has been set up comprising representatives of the
Economy Ministry, said Petrov.
Mungengova is visiting here at the invitation of Svetlin
Tanchev, chair of the parliamentary committee on EU affairs and
EU funds oversight.
"Small and medium sized companies are the backbone of EU's
economy and of Bulgaria's in particular. Special attention
should be paid to their needs so that not only big businesses
but small participants in the Transatlantic trade benefit too,"
said Deputy Economy Minister Petrov. He noted that waiving of
the US visa for Bulgarians is not on the agenda of the
negotiations between the EU and the US but is a prerequisite if
Bulgaria wants to take full advantage of this comprehensive
agreement.
