Bulgarian Engineers Win Award for Most Notable Trenchless Technology Innovation
Istanbul/Sofia, October 1 (BTA) - Bulgarian engineers have won
an award for the most notable trenchless technology innovation
in 2014-2015. The team managed to repair large diameter
pipelines in Kazakhstan. The engineers received the No-Dig Award
by the International Society of Trenchless Technology on
Tuesday in Istanbul, the Bulgarian Association for Trenchless
Technology said.
The Bulgarian engineers were the only ones who took the
challenge to implement the complex project in Jezkazgan for the
rehabilitation of very large diameter pipelines (up top 2240 m).
The 50-year old leaking pipes are located below buildings which
made their replacement by traditional methods very difficult.
To restore the strategic pipelines, the Bulgarian team used the
so-called Phoenix technology, using cured-in-place lining. All
the equipment had been custom made and the team finished the
renovation on time.
The No Dig Award was set up in 1986 by the International Society
for Trenchless Technology, the only organization in the world
comprising representatives of the academic community,
manufacturers and engineers.
