Number of Registered Candidates for Mayors, Municipal Councillors at October 25 Local Elections Totals 42,702

Sofia, October 1 (BTA) - The number of candidates running in the October 25 local elections totals 42,702 people, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Kamelia Neikova told a regular briefing on Thursday. The number may change as any runner is free to withdraw from the race for mayors and municipal councillors prior to voting day, Neikova said.

The runners for municipality mayors are 1,605, for mayoralty mayors, 10,072, and for borough mayors, 696. The candidates for municipal councillors are 35,771. A candidate may run simultaneously for mayor and municipal councillor, so that the figures do not add up to the total number of candidates, Neikova noted.

CEC presented to reporters the videos made thereby as part of the information campaign for the elections.

Neikova said that the Municipal Election Commissions, CEC and the respective printing houses are ready to print the paper ballots which will be done after they have been endorsed by the respective Municipal Election Commission.

By October 4 voters with disabilities can submit applications for voting in a mobile ballot box. If they miss the deadline, disabled voters may file the application also on October 19.

On October 14 all municipal mayors are to publicize the lists of names of voters that have been deleted from the electoral registers, on paper and on the web site of the respective municipality. By October 17 voters can apply for removal of missing information or errors in the electoral registers.

The end of election campaign is on midnight on October 23. Results from opinion polls may not be publicized until the end of voting, 7 p.m. on October 25. Within 24 hours after the end of voting, the district election commissions are to report the voting results and hand over the tally sheets to the municipal election commission.
