Forty-six Persons Detained in Operation against Illegal Smuggling of Humans

Sofia, October 2 (BTA) - Forty-six persons have been detained in an operation against illegal smuggling of people and illegal migration, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov told a news conference on Friday. The operation was conducted by the Interior Ministry, the State Agency for National Security (SANS), and the prosecuting magistracy, following meticulous planning with the participation of Tsatsarov and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova.

Accommodation facilities were checked in Sofia, Dragoman, Vidin and Montana, all in Western Bulgaria.

Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov said that 38 pre-trial proceedings were opened.

A total of 9,702 people were checked in the operation, 5,209 vehicles, and 955 facilities and areas. A total of 501 illegal aliens were apprehended, and 20 weapons of various calibres were confiscated.
