Bulgaria, Malaysia Sign Memorandum of Cooperation in Legal Sphere

Sofia, March 28 (BTA) - Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation on Legal Affairs between the governments of Bulgaria and Malaysia, Mitov's ministry said. The Foreign Minister was also authorized to sign on behalf of Bulgaria the additional agreement under Art. 2 (2) of the Memorandum.

Mitov is on an official visit to Malaysia from March 28 to 31. This is the first visit of a Bulgarian foreign minister to the country in the history of the bilateral relations.

The Memorandum is aimed at promoting and developing mutually beneficial activities in the sphere of legal cooperation between Bulgaria and Malaysia. The main areas of cooperation are: exchange of legislation on matters of mutual interest; mutual visits of legal professionals aimed at sharing experience and good practices, as well participation in joint training programmes; promotion and development of professional contacts between legal employees; other activities of mutual interest that the parties agree on. The cooperation is consistent with the protection of copyright and confidentiality of information, and includes the holding of consultations between the two countries.

The additional agreement under Art. 2 (2) of the Memorandum determines the participants on the Bulgarian side (employees from the specialized administration of the Justice Ministry and prosecutors from the prosecuting magistracy's structure) and on the Malaysian side (employees of the Office of the Prosecutor General).

This is the second memorandum of this type that Malaysia concludes with another country.
