Government Extends Additional Lv 12 Mln for Cancer Patients in 2016

Sofia, March 28 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov and Health Minister Peter Moskov Monday discussed a mechanism for providing additional resources for high-tech treatment of patients with oncological diseases, the Government Information Service said.

To ensure that the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will cover their treatment at 100 per cent in 2016, an additional 12 million leva will be provided above those set aside in the fund's budget for this year. This will guarantee the opportunity to use the new equipment purchased in 2015 and the beginning of 2016 to its full capacity. The step comes in support of the treatment of cancer patients in Bulgaria, 35,000 new cases of whom are diagnosed each year. The press release recalls that so far patients paid for the treatments and in many cases travelled for treatment abroad.

The funds were set aside thanks to the good work of the revenue agencies, as well as to the expected revenue NHIF will collect in 2016.
