Sofia Opera Receives Annual Foreign Ministry Diplomatic Institute Award for Cultural Diplomacy

Sofia, July 15 (BTA) - This year's Annual Honorary Award of the Diplomatic Institute with the Minister of Foreign Affairs for a Bulgarian institution goes to the Sofia Opera and Ballet, the institute said Friday. The award goes for popularizing Bulgaria's positive image through the instruments of cultural diplomacy.

The opera and ballet house also receives the award to mark the 125th anniversary of its foundation.

Sofia Opera and Ballet will receive its award on the Day of Bulgarian Diplomatic Service, July 19.

The award for foreign national with considerable contribution to the activity of the Diplomatic Institute will go to Prof. Dusan Sidjanski, Honorary President of the European Cultural Centre in Geneva, Professor Emeritus at the University of Geneva, Special Advisor to president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso (2004-2014), and author of dozens of books and articles, the press release said. He has been a member of the Diplomatic Institute since 2008 and, besides his considerable contribution to establishing the authority of the Institute, his award is also on the occasion of his 90th anniversary.
