PM Borissov: "GERB Will Resign If Tsacheva Loses in Runoff"

Sofia, November 7 (BTA) - Speaking to journalists together with GERB's presidential candidate Tsetska Tsacheva, after a meeting at the party headquarters attended by ministers, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that "if we lose in the runoff, we will leave government".

"We played fair with a candidate who is our own," he said, urging the media to wait for the final election results because of the marginal lead of the Socialist-backed candidate, Rumen Radev, against Tsacheva. Borissov denied allegations that he was breaking his promise to resign if his party's candidate lost in the first round of the presidential elections, noting that GERB is the top political force in the elections, while the other candidates were put forward by nomination committees.

"The Reformists [Reformist Bloc] surprised me, as I expected them to do better. We are mobilizing until next week, and I believe that we have a realistic chance of winning in the second round," Borissov commented.

GERB will seek support from all citizens, and above all from those who have no representatives in the runoff. In Borissov's words, it is already quite clear that the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms are forming a united front, which automatically excludes the two parties from the range of entities that GERB would approach. He added Democrats for Free Bulgaria to that number.
