Court Fails to Proceed with Burgas Airport Bombing Trial Again

Sofia, June 19 (BTA) - The specialized court on Monday did not proceed with the trial for the 2012 bombing at Burgas Airport due to the incorrect summons of some of the Israeli witnesses and one legal person. Also, the Bulgarian counsel for the Israelis presented objective reasons for his absence and asked that the trial be postponed.

On July 18, 2012, a man blew himself up next to a bus carrying Israeli tourists in the parking space of Burgas Airport. Five Israeli tourists and their Bulgarian driver were killed. Meliad Farah and Hasan El Hadj Hasan have been charged as perpetrators in absentia. The indictment was submitted to the court more than six months ago.

The next hearing is scheduled for July 18, when the victims' relatives will arrive in Bulgaria for a commemoration ceremony. While they are in the country, they will be questioned by the court.
