site.btaBulgaria Will Refuse Entry, Stay of Persons in Respect of Whom SIS Alerts Have Been Issued

Sofia, July 27 (BTA) - As of August 1, third-country nationals in respect of whom alerts have been issued within the Schengen Information System (SIS) refusing entry into or stay in the Schengen Area, will not be allowed to enter or stay in Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Friday.

The refusal to enter Bulgaria will be enacted when a third-country national in respect of whom one or more EU member states have issued a SIS alert banning the person's entry/stay in the Schengen Area comes at a Bulgarian border checking point.

The procedure is based on a decision adopted by the Council of the EU in respect of applying remaining provisions of the Schengen Area legislation by Bulgaria and Romania who are not yet members of the border-free area.

Third-country nationals currently in Bulgaria without a due permit for staying in the country and a ban to enter the Schengen Area will be led out of this country by the competent authorities, the press release says.
