Sofia, December 29 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Saturday met with Goran Djokovic who is the new director of the Sofia Open tennis tournament, the government information service said.

The two discussed the upcoming edition of the tournament. For the fourth time Bulgaria will be hosting an ATP tournament (Association of Tennis Professionals). Djokovic is in Bulgaria to oversee preparations for the tournament which will open on February 3 2019 at Sofia's Armeec Hall. During the meeting Djokovic conveyed greetings to Borissov on behalf of his nephew Novak Djokovic. He said that the tournament is expected to be of the strongest in the ATP World Tour 250 Series in 2019 and to bring together tennis fans in the Balkans. He drew a parallel with a joint bid by Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Greece to host the World Championship in 2030.

Djokovic expects Sofia to host some of the top ranking players Karen Khachanov, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev as well as Stanislas Wawrinka, Gael Monfils and Novak Djokovic.

Attending were Bulgarian Sports Minister Krassen Kralev, Bulgarian Tennis Federation President Stefan Tzvetkov and Rangel Markov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation's Board of Directors. LI/PP
