Sofia, January 17 (BTA) - Serbian citizens from the Bulgarian minority will now be able to write out female surnames according to the Bulgarian language rules i.e. ending in the suffixes "-ova", "-eva" and "-ska", said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The practice in Serbia so far has been for Bulgarian female surnames to end in the suffixes "-ov", "-ev" and "-ski", that in Bulgaria are usually used in male names, the MFA recalled.

The Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade was officially notified of the change introduced by the Serbian Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government on December 25, 2018. LY/DT
