Opens

Sofia, May 8 (BTA) - Bulgaria's 240-seat Parliament Wednesday opened its summer session after the Easter recess in the presence of 121 MPs. The BSP for Bulgaria continued its boycott of the sittings, which started in February over election rule revisions. The MPs of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) were also absent.

Parliament Chairperson Tsveta Karayancheva recalled that the 44th National Assembly is halfway through its term, adding that although its performance has drawn conflicting and sometimes extreme reactions, the MPs have adopted 260 acts and amendments to legislation, 379 resolutions, two declarations and one address, and has dedicated 280 hours to Question Time.

Karayancheva expressed hope that the MPs will remain committed to their duties during the campaign for the May 26 European elections. She offered Easter greetings to Christians and wished Muslims a happy month of Ramadan. LI/DD
