Participates in
European Council Summit


Brussels, August 30 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev is
participating in the European Council summit meeting in Brussels
on August 30. Bulgaria's nomination of Kristalina Georgieva for
the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and
Security Policy will be put forward at the meeting of the EU
state and government leaders.

Earlier in the day Plevneliev and the European Council members
were scheduled to meet with European Parliament President Martin
Schulz.

The Council is expected to name the new President of the
European Council, and a new High Representative of the Union for
Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

EU leaders met on July16 to discuss key appointments to be made
for top EU positions. At the end of the meeting, European
Council President Herman van Rompuy concluded on the need for
further consultations: "We are not yet at the point where we can
get a consensual solution on a full package of appointments. We
will continue consultations." The EU leaders decided to meet
again on August 30 to further discuss the topic.
