As Little As 15 Per Cent of Bulgarians Express Desire to Look for Job Abroad

Sofia, February 24 (BTA) - As little as 15 per cent from the
Bulgarians express a desire to leave their homeland for a long
time and search for a job abroad, according to a poll conducted
by TNS BBSS and presented by its Regional Director, Marchela
Abrasheva. The nationally representative poll was commissioned
by a non-governmental organization for Bulgarians returning to
their homeland, called "Here-There".

Here-There Deputy Chairman of the Governing Board Zhoro Penchev
said that the percentage revealed by the poll was "very good
news" and one implying that people expect positive changes in
Bulgaria. Only two per cent of the respondents in the poll said
they wanted to emigrate.

One in every three Bulgarians living in Bulgaria has a relative
or a friend living abroad, the poll showed. Nearly two million
Bulgarians live abroad, three quarters of whom work or study in
a EU member state. Nearly two thirds of the Bulgarians abroad
are people in active age, between 25 and 44 years. Of them,
nearly three quarters come home at least once during the year,
which shows an increased mobility of the Bulgarians.

Abrasheva said that one can no longer speak about emigration but
about opening up of opportunities and globalization of the
Bulgarian community. More and more expatriate Bulgarians return
home and invest what they earned working abroad in the Bulgarian
economy, she said.

Skype is the means of communication of choice between the
Bulgarians and their relatives and friends abroad. One in every
four Bulgarians communicates with their friends via the social
media.
