Labour and Social Policy Minister: Gender Equality to be Included in All Government Policies

Pravets, Western Bulgaria/Sofia, April 7 (BTA) - Gender equality
will be included in all government policies, Labour and Social
Policy Minister Ivailo Kalfin said Tuesday during a meeting of
the National Gender Equality Council, quoted by his Ministry.
The participants in the meeting held in Pravets discussed a
draft bill on gender equality.

In the next two months the Labour and Social Policy Ministry
plans a broad discussion of the bill with all stakeholders.
Kalfin said that the passage of the bill is a priority of the
cabinet. The objective is to have a good bill that contains real
measures and enjoys broad support.

Kalfin's Deputy, Lazar Lazarov, presented National Statistical
Institute (NSI) data which show a decreasing share of employed
women. The data also show that the average salary of women is
below that of men. The difference was 21 per cent in 2012, and
20 per cent in 2013.

Employment of men is highest in the processing industry and
construction, while retail trade, education, human healthcare
and the social sphere are sectors whose workforce is mainly
women, NSI data show.
