Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a telephone conversation on Monday, discussing the ongoing escalation of tensions in the Middle East, which is negatively affecting the security and stability of neighbouring regions, as well as the need for timely measures to de-escalate the conflict and end hostilities.

Radev highly appreciated Egypt's role as a stabilizing factor in the Middle East, as well as the country's consistent actions to curb the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In this regard, Bulgaria’s President noted Egypt's efforts to resolve a number of humanitarian issues, including the release of hostages of various countries, including Bulgarian citizens - the commanding officer and the executive officers of the Galaxy Leader vehicle carrier, as well as those taken captive in the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.

Radev also highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Egypt, as well as Bulgaria's efforts to develop and deepen those relations in the economic, trade and energy sectors. He again invited his Egyptian counterpart to visit Bulgaria.
