Italian cyclist Giovanni Carboni, riding for the JCL Team Ukyo, Monday won the second stage of the 71st Tour of Bulgaria that covered a 108.3 km route from Troyan to Kazanlak.

Carboni raced head-to-head on the final stretch with the Czech Republic’s Jakub Otruba, who rides for ATT Investments. The Italian managed to overtake Otruba in the last 100 meters, causing him to finish in the second spot.

Italy's Matteo Malucelli of JCL Team Ukyo, who placed third, finished nearly half a minute behind his teammate Carboni. Malucelli won the first stage of the tour on Sunday, which put him at the top of the overall standings.

The two Italians now lead the general classification, with Carboni taking first place and Malucelli second.

The Tour of Bulgaria continues on Tuesday with the third stage from Kazanlak to Burgas, which is 180.5 km long.
