Southeast European Meeting on Drugs Held in Sofia

Sofia, June 2 (BTA) - The Anti-Drug Trafficking Task Force of
the Southeast European Law Enforcement Centre (SELEC) held its
21st meeting in Sofia between May 31 and June 1, Bulgaria's
Customs Agency reported. The event was attended by 45 experts
from SELEC member countries and partners from France, Germany,
the United States and the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime.

The meeting discussed an annual report on the drugs situation in
Southeast Europe in 2014 and the most successful joint
investigations conducted during that year.

Representatives of SELEC countries highlighted new drug-related
trends, mechanisms and smuggling routes. The US Drug Enforcement
Administration reviewed the latest trends in heroin and cocaine
trafficking in the US, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime
discussed drug trafficking from a global and regional
perspective.

The participants in the meeting underscored the need to promote
institutional cooperation among SELEC member and partner
countries by facilitating information exchange and sharing good
practice.

The Anti-Drug Trafficking Task Force is one of SELEC's oldest
and most effective units. Founded in 2000, it is coordinated by
Bulgaria.
