Bulgaria's, Romania's Schengen Accession Will Boost EU's Security

Bucharest, June 8 (BTA) - Bulgaria has fulfilled Schengen's
technical criteria, said National Assembly Chair Tsetska
Tsacheva during a meeting with Valeriu Zgonea, President of
Romania's Chamber of Deputies.

"Bulgaria and Romania walk hand-in-hand and they should access
Schengen together. This will enhance EU's security", said
Tsacheva. She went on the say that efforts and achievements are
visible. The Bulgarian Parliament speaker underscored that the
Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Bulgaria and Romania
should be scrapped.

Tsacheva commended the adoption of a law by Romanian Parliament
which designates May 24 Day of Bulgarian language, adding that
thanks to bilateral relations, based on Euro-Atlantic values,
goodneighbourly relations and mutual interest, Bulgaria and
Romania are becoming regional leaders in Southeastern Europe.

Regarding increased migratory pressure, Tsacheva said that with
everything done to guarantee Europe's security the voice of
Bulgaria and Romania will be heard across Europe.

Zgonea said that the two countries share a common road. "We
should benefit from our bilateral cooperation and continue to be
good and reliable partners within the European Union," he
added. During the talks Zgonea suggested drafting a memorandum
of understanding between the two parliaments to lay down common
positions on key regional and strategic issues.

Within the framework of her visit, Tsacheva conferred with
Romanian Senate President Calin Popescu Tariceanu. The two
concurred on the need for intensified partnership in the
implementation of large scale projects in economy and
infrastructure. Tsacheva and Tariceanu outlined Bulgaria's and
Romania's shared goals in tapping cross-border cooperation
schemes, the Danube Strategy, and the Black Sea Synergy.

On the Bulgarian delegation were Deputy National Assembly Chair
Ivan Ivanov (Reformist Bloc), MP Angel Naydenov (BSP-Left
Bulgaria), MP Aydoan Ali (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), MP
Krassimir Bogdanov (Patriotic Front) and Borislav Borissov
(ABV).
