site.btaBulgarian Inventor Working in Electrical Engineering, Team of Agronomists Entered in Golden Book of Bulgarian Patent Office

December 8 (BTA) - The names of a Bulgarian inventor and plant selection experts have been entered in the Golden Book of the Bulgarian Patent Office at a special ceremony held in the building of the President's office. The Golden Book gets opened once in the year when the names of the most prominent Bulgarian inventors and discoverers are recorded in it. 2021 marks the 40th anniversary since the creation of the Golden Book.

This year's entries are Assoc. Prof. Stoyan Gishin, PhD (Engineering Sciences), who works in the area of electrical processes in batteries, and a team of four agriculture scholars: Prof. Miroslav Ivanov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Zdravko Nakov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Tatyana Yoncheva, PhD, and Assoc. Prof. Vanyo Haigurov, PhD, who work in the area of vine selection.  

Gishin has authored and co-authored 29 inventions with protection in Bulgaria and abroad. His innovations more than double down the production time for batteries while at the same time improve their ecological performance and ensure quick return of investment.

The vine species selected by the four agriculture researchers are suitable for environmentally-friendly production, have lower cost price, possess good macrobiological and technological properties, and also improved resilience to low winter temperatures. The team of scholars has selected ten vine species which are protected with a certificate.

In his address at the ceremony, President Rumen Radev said that the Golden Book of the Patent Office is "a unique tool for safeguarding the memory of the Bulgarian achievements and a tool which hands down to the next generations the sense of national pride and merit, and which fosters a belief in success and a will to tackle challenges".

Since the Golden Book's creation in 1981, the names of 130 prominent Bulgarian scholars and inventors have been entered in it. In the words of the Chairperson of the Patent Office, Vladya Borissova, these inventions constitute Bulgaria's "treasure trove," particularly today when intellectual property rights are a key business resource for each innovative economy.
