European Science Commissioner Moedas Meets with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Kuneva
Sofia, October 8 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for
European Policies and Institutional Affairs Meglena Kuneva and
European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation
Carlos Moedas met in Sofia on Thursday to discuss EU funding for
science during the current programming period, the Cabinet's
Press Service reported.
Moedas arrived here earlier on Thursday to present a report on
Bulgaria in connection with a European Commission mechanism for
support of research and innovation policies under the Horizon
2020 Programme.
Kuneva and Moedas expressed their shared view that in a dynamic
world, with economies developing ever more rapidly, the EU needs
innovation more than ever before in order to stay competitive.
The two agreed that Bulgaria will host an international forum on
science and innovation during the Bulgarian EU Presidency in
the second half of 2018.
They also considered Bulgaria's expected accession to the
Schengen border-free area as part of the overall policy of
integration of the EU member states. Moedas reaffirmed the
European Commission's support for the Bulgarian demands.
