MEP Andrey Kovachev: EU Should Have Common Army, Security Policy
Sofia, October 12 (BTA) - The European Union should have a common army and security policy, said MEP Andrey Kovachev (GERB/EPP) at a forum on EU's foreign policy in Sofia on Monday. It is one of two debates, organized by the European Parliament Information Office here on the refugee crisis in Europe.
According to Kovachev, an international conference should be convened with all stakeholders to outline Syria's political future. He said that Syria needs statehood.
MEP Angel Dzhambazki (IMRO/ECR) said that Syria will likely be divided into zones of influence. He said that unless the issue of the future of Syria, Lybia and Iraq is resolved, there will be no stability and more people will seek refuge.
Simeon Evstatiev, Arab and Islamic studies scholar, said that in order to resolve the problem in the Middle East, an internationl coalition including the US, Europe and Russia should be formed for at least a short time.
Journalist Georgi Milkov said that Turkey is the main force which controls the traffic of refugees to Europe and that the EU should cooperate with it.
The second debate is scheduled for October 16 and will be dedicated to EU's home affairs policy.
