New Electricity Trading Rules Nearly Ready

Sofia, October 14 (BTA) - The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) is in the home stretch of making the rules for electricity trading which will be applicable after an independent national electricity exchange goes into operation at the beginning of 2016 following a one-month trial period, EWRC Chairman Ivan Ivanov told journalists on Wednesday.

Ivanov said Bulgaria expects the European Commission to state whether the Maritza East 1 and Maritsa East 3 thermal power plants have received illegitimate state aid.

Asked whether the price of electricity for industrial users will be changed at the beginning of November, he said EWRC experts are working on the issue and it will soon be clear whether the regulator will change the price or not. Whenever additional reserves are identified, EWRC responds immediately with its next pricing decision, he said.
