Bulgaria Works to Attract More Producers from Automotive Sector - Economy Minister

Sofia, October 16 (BTA) - Bulgaria works to attract more
producers from the automotive sector, Economy Minister Bozhidar
Loukarski said Friday, opening the 2015 Sofia Motor Show.

Loukarski recalled that several investment projects in the
automotive industry were unveiled in Bulgaria this year,
particularly in the Bozhourishte Industrial Zone near Sofia. New
investors from the automotive sector have shown interest in
this industrial zone and also in Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria,
Loukarski said, declining to offer more details on the grounds
of ongoing negotiations. He noted that the projects are not for
manufacturing of cars but for production of electronic,
mechanical and other components for the automotive industry.

The Minister voiced a hope that the number of visitors at the
motor show and the sales made during it will indicate that the
purchasing power of the Bulgarians has grown. He said that the
participants in a meeting with Opel officials during his recent
visit to Germany noted that Bulgaria is the country with the
oldest car fleet in Europe. Thirty-nine per cent of this fleet
are vehicles which are more than 20 years old, he said.

Loukarski also said that the automotive sector is one of the
economic branches with the biggest potential for development
here. More than 100 international and local producers of motor
parts work in it, he added.
