Bulgarian Medical Association Urges All Physicians to Join Upcoming Protest
Sofia, April 4 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) urged on Monday all physicians to join the upcoming protest which will be held on April 6 under the slogan "True Reform for True Medicine". The protest is scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm in front of the Council of Ministers building.
On March 28, GPs started phased effective protests against a package of reforms moved by Health Minister Peter Moskov and against the ex officio imposition of the 2015 National Framework Agreement after the BMA refused to sign a new agreement.
In an address released to the media, the BMA's management board calls on physicians to not be afraid to participate in the nationwide protest and stand up for their right to work, led by their responsibility to patients and society.
The BMA urges physicians to not allow disaccord due to agreements and deals with the power-holders, manipulations and rumours. This is not a true reform, the Association says, asking to be left to practice true medicine, like they have been taught - without limits, regulatory standards, numerous administrative obstacles.
On Sunday, the governing bodies of the National Association of General Practitioners have decided to call off the effective strike as of Monday, however, GPs will stay on strike alert. They have sent their opinion to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Minister Moskov.
