PM Borissov: Retaining Ownership of  Gas Transmission System Is Strategic Task for Bulgaria

Sofia, June 10 (BTA) - Retaining ownership of the gas transmission system is an exceptionally important and strategic task for Bulgaria, said here on Friday Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He was commenting the topic after his meeting with EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager. Borissov further said that he expects from the EC and Commissioner Vestager understanding and assistance for all "controversial" topics. He admitted that there is still quite a lot to be accomplished regarding the EU directives, adding, however, that some of the topics can not be applied immediately and that requires a show of understanding.

The discussions focused on various projects and problems, including the Russian pipes sitting at Bulgarian ports and the ongoing procedures regarding South Stream.

Commissioner Vestager noted Bulgaria's important role for building the European energy union. Security of supplies and affordable prices are important for every European citizen, she said, adding that the transition of the energy systems must happen slowly and gradually, so that the commitments made regarding climate change can be fulfilled.

According to her, cooperation with Bulgaria is excellent. The Bulgarian priorities are similar to the European ones and are part of them, the guest noted.
