PM Borissov, Chinese Businesses Discuss Investment Opportunities in Bulgaria

Sofia, January 11 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Wednesday met with representatives of Chinese big businesses, who are in Bulgaria to look into investment opportunities, the government information service said.

Management representatives of Alibaba Group, GS-Solar Company and GoldPoly Group, accompanied by Dimiter Abadjiev, Bulgaria's Consul General in Shanghai until now, participated in the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev attended it.

The Chinese investors noted that their interest in Bulgaria stemmed from the good relations established between Borissov and China's President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang. The sides concurred that bilateral business contacts were stepped up in recent years due to Bulgaria's top-level participation in the 16+1 initiative, economic forums and opportunities for business representatives to discuss specific projects.

Alibaba Group, the e-commerce company, is considering setting up a logistics centre servicing the whole of Europe. The project includes offering Bulgarian foods and other products. GS-Solar Company, the solar panel manufacturer, is planning to open a plant in Bulgaria, and GoldPoly Group is showing interest in purchasing Bulgarian tobacco.

Borissov thanked the Chinese authorities for cooperating in the stepping up of bilateral economic relations. He stressed that from the very start his government set a priority on creating a better business climate and promoting investments. To this end, the government reduced the administrative burdens and ensured a stable business environment. Borissov said that besides low taxes, Bulgaria has the advantage of stability as a financial and economic player in the EU.
