Presidents of Bulgaria and Germany
Reaffirm Support for Western Balkans'
European Prospects

Sofia, June 2 (BTA) - Presidents Rumen Radev of Bulgaria and Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany have reaffirmed their support for the European prospects of the Western Balkan countries. The two had a telephone conversation on Friday, during which they concurred that more active support is needed for the realization of the European prospects of these countries, which is important for the stability of Southeastern Europe and for economic exchange in the region, Radev's press secretariat reported. The conversation was held at the initiative of the Bulgarian President.

Radev congratulated Steinmeier on taking over as President of Germany and expressed his confidence that this is another step forward in deepening Sofia's dialogue with Berlin and bolstering bilateral economic and investment cooperation. "Germany is a strategic partner to Bulgaria within the EU," Radev said.

Steinmeier noted that he is a friend of Bulgaria and the Balkans, and expressed his willingness to work for an expansion of Germany's economic relations with this part of the world.

Radev also called for enhanced partnership between the two countries' armed forces and for joint military exercises.

He invited Steinmeier to visit Bulgaria at his convenience. PK/VE
