Sofia, November 30 (BTA) - Sofia Airport welcomed its 6 millionth passenger for the year on Thursday: Violina Trencheva, who arrived on a Wizz Air flight from Dortmund.

For the first time in the history of a Bulgarian airport, two records were set within a single calendar year: the welcoming of a 5 millionth and a 6th million passenger, Sofia Airport Executive Director Vladimir Rapondzhiev said. Last year, Sofia Airport serviced just under 5 million passengers, official statistics show.

This is proof of the excellent work of Sofia Airport's entire team and its good partnership relations with airlines, ground operators, Border Police, customs and other services, Rapondzhiev said.

The attraction of a bigger passenger and freight traffic is among the key targets of the airport's leadership and the work for its achievement continues throughout the whole year, as evidenced by an increase of 36 per cent in the passenger flow in the first ten months of 2017 alone, Rapondzhiev noted.

The winter schedule of Sofia Airport offers flights to over 60 destinations in Europe and the Middle East carried out by 36 airlines. Two seasonal lines will be unveiled by this year's end: easyJet will fly to Edinburgh twice a week, and Nordwind will carry out flights to Moscow, the Executive Director said.
