Gorna Oryahovitsa, North Central Bulgaria, June 9 (BTA) - The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food is in active contact with the European Commission for the registration of Bulgarian products as Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Minister Roumen Porozhanov said here on Saturday. Some ten producers have submitted PGI applications and are expecting a decision before the respective deadlines.

Among the products awaiting approval for a PGI are white brined cheese, kashkaval cheese and Bulgarian yoghurt.

According to Porozhanov, there is a delay due to not all documents having been submitted to his ministry's registers as far as ten years ago.

Porozhanov was in Gorna Oryahovitsa to attend the opening of the traditional festival of the Gornooryahovski Sudzhuk, a meat product that the EC included in the PGI register in 2011.

Bulgaria has five other products registered as PGI: File Elena, Role Trapezitsa, Lukanka Panagyurska, Kayserovan Vrat Trakiya, and Pastarma Govezhda, the Agriculture Minister recalled.
