Plovdiv is one of the most dynamic, rapidly developing areas with significant economic, social, educational and cultural potential, said Plovdiv Regional Governor Prof Hristina Yancheva at the Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills conference in Plovdiv on Tuesday.

Yancheva pointed out that in recent years Plovdiv region has attracted significant investments in new technologies and innovations. "It is important to me that education, scientific research, innovation and connections with business contribute to the economic development of the region as a whole, and at the same time are the basis for a stronger, better, sustainable society," she emphasized. 

She noted that Plovdiv is a city with a very good digitized school network, with many secondary and vocational schools and dual education, adding that there are several universities in the city that prepare personnel in accordance with the needs of the economy. According to her, all universities on the territory of Plovdiv are preparing their students with new skills and competencies that are related to the green and digital transition, because these will be the specialists of the future. 

She also pointed out that two universities in Plovdiv are included in the European University Alliance, which are considered universities of the future. "When we talk about together through knowledge, these are the partnerships and collaborations that Plovdiv as a city and region implements with various European institutions", Yancheva concluded. 

The Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project is a continuation of the Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future and Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future projects, implemented by BTA in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The main objective of the project will be to provide objective and comprehensive information and an accurate overall picture of the European Union's cohesion policy in all Bulgarian regions. Special emphasis will be placed on skills and knowledge as an engine for regional development.

As part of the project, in the period from November 2024 to September 2025, BTA will organize discussions in its regional press clubs in the following cities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik , Pernik, Petrich, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Ruse, Samokov, Svishtov, Silistra, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Troyan, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol. BTA will also hold cross-border conferences in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje and Thessaloniki.
