Addressing the closing conference of BTA's Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future project in the Bulgarian seaside resort of Albena on Saturday, Giurgiu County Council Vice President Elisabeta Mihalcea said the European Union is the path for Romania. Without it and without EU funding, Romania could not have made those investments.
She stressed that Bulgaria and Romania have very good neighbourly and friendly relations. A number of investments through EU funds have been made both in Giurgiu County and in Ruse Municipality.
"We have many partnerships for disaster relief - the amount is about EUR 1 million. Investments in safety for the regions of Ruse and Giurgiu total some EUR 6 million." There are also smaller projects worth around EUR 500,000. In terms of infrastructure, there is about EUR 15 million. "This is a lot of money coming to Romania," Mihalcea said.
She stressed that Giurgiu County follows the EU's guidelines and implements its projects in partnership with Ruse Municipality as a border neighbour.
The Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future project is implemented by BTA with the European Commission's support. It promotes the EU's cohesion policies. As part of this project, BTA has organized 36 conferences, including six cross-border conferences, six major regional conferences and 22 local conferences.
