site.btaBTA Unveils Latest Issue of Its LIK Magazine Dedicated to Poet Atanas Dalchev

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will hold a special event for the launch of the June issue of its LIK magazine dedicated to poet Atanas Dalchev (1904-1978). The event will take place at the National Press Club in Sofia, with video links from all of BTA's national press clubs in the country and abroad, and will be livestreamed on Facebook. 

The magazine's latest issue will be presented by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, the Director of the Agency's Directorate for Knowledge and Culture, LIK, Prof. Georgi Lozanov, and LIK magazine editor Yanitsa Hristova. Special guests at the event in Sofia will be literary historian and critic Prof. Mihail Nedelchev, the poet's daughter Viktoria Dalcheva, and the head of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature at Ankara University, Prof. Dr. Huseyin Mevsim, author of a book dedicated to Dalchev. 

The BTA's issue traces Dalchev's artistic path and the mark he left in Bulgarian culture through the news published over the decades in the agency's issues and bulletins. The magazine features highlights from the BTA archive that reflect the appearance of a new book, an award received, or an appearance associated with the artist's name. 

Atanas Dalchev was among the leading Bulgarian poets of the 1920s and 1930s. After the Communist takeover in 1944, he was among the first writers to be attacked by the new establishment. Fluent in several languages, Dalchev also established himself as a prominent translator of poetry and fiction from French, Spanish, English, German, and Russian. His work gained recognition abroad: he was awarded the German-Austrian Herder Prize in 1972 (for his overall literary work) and the Russian Znak Pocheta Order (or Order of the Badge of Honour) in 1967 (for popularizing Russian culture in Bulgaria).
