"Let our thoughts be mora than just "local" and let us be grateful that we have peaceful elections," Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev said at the Agency's National Press Club in Odesa on Sunday, October 29, when Bulgaria has local elections and the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarians is marked.

Valchev spoke during the presentation of Yordan Eftimov's book Before They Wash the Blood with poetry dedicated to the war in Ukraine. The book presentation is part of the events dedicated to the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarians.

According to Valchev, on a day of local elections we should not think only "locally" and fail to see beyond the borders of Bulgaria. "Because in the days of the war in Ukraine, our thoughts should also be about supporting the Bulgarians here, who number 200,000-250,000 (in Odesa alone there are between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians), and maybe much more if we count all those with Bulgarian roots from generations back. The very Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians - October 29, is associated with the Bulgarians in these lands, because this is the day of the consecration of the Church of the Holy Transfiguration in the city of Bolgrad in 1838," BTA's Director General recalled.
