Caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov sent a letter to Patriarch John X, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East in Damascus, expressing Bulgaria's unwavering support and solidarity with the Syrian people and Orthodox Christians in Syria, the Ministry's press office said on Thursday. In his letter, Kondov expressed hope that they will live as equal and responsible citizens of Syria in a peaceful and prosperous country, governed by the rule of law and respect for human rights and freedoms.

"I believe that, under your spiritual guidance, Orthodox Christians will greatly contribute to the reconstruction of their country – a home for all Syrians, regardless of their faith and ethnicity," Kondov wrote. He also wished prosperity and peace for the Syrian people in the spirit of the upcoming Christmas holidays.
