Bulgarian teams prevailed in two out of five categories at the Twelfth Ramus Sofia Open 2025 International Taekwondo Tournament which was held at the Asics Arena in the capital this weekend. This year's competition brought together more than 1,500 participants from nearly 20 countries representing more than a hundred clubs. 

Taekwondo has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 2000. The tournament was organized by the Ramus Taekwondo Club in association with the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation.

Bulgarian entrants won the men/women/junior men/junior women, we well as in the children's category, on the first day, March 22. On the second day, the Italian and Moldovan competitors earned the largest number of points.

“Interest in taekwondo is rising especially after competitions like the Ramus Sofia Open 2025. Our athletes have direct contact with some of the best in the world, which motivates them to go after greater achievements,” the President of the organizing committee of the Ramus Sofia Open tournament and Vice President of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation Dimitar Mihaylov said.

He added that a large stimulus for youngsters are also the achievements of Bulgarian taekwondo athletes in the past year. At the Olympic Games in Paris Kimia Alizadeh won a bronze medal for Bulgaria and Stanislav Mitkov won silver at the World Junior Championship in the Republic of Korea in the under 17 junior category.

The Ramus Sofia Open 2025 Tournament was opened by the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev and Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev on March 22, 2025.

The President wished success to the participants and stressed that regardless of the final standings, each athlete is an example to follow because of the high sportsmanship and will to win. The President thanked parents, coaches and everyone involved in the organization of the tournament for their unconditional support.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Deputy Sports Minister Stoyan Andonov, South Korean Ambassador Dong-bae Kim, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation Chairman Slavi Binev and others.
