Bulgarian swimmer Petar Mitsin set a new national record and entered the 400m freestyle final with a seventh time at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.
The 19-year-old became the first Bulgarian to go under 3:40 minutes in the discipline, with a fourth time in his heat of 3:38.94 minutes, which improved his own discipline record of 3:41.19 in the small pool and proved enough for the world junior record holder in the large pool discipline to finish in the top eight.
Australia's Elijah Winnington set the fastest time in the prelims with 3:37.22.
