site.btaDeputy Foreign Minister Angelieva Attends OECD's Inaugural Emerging Markets Forum

Deputy Foreign Minister Maria Angelieva represented Bulgaria at Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) inaugural Emerging Markets Forum in Istanbul on April 10, the Ministry's press centre said here on Friday. It was hosted by the OECD Istanbul Centre and the Government of Turkiye.

The Forum provided a platform for cross-regional dialogue between OECD Members and partner countries to bridge policy gaps and advance shared solutions to global issues.

The event brought together high-level representatives, including ministers and deputy ministers from OED member and partner countries, representatives from the European Commission, UNDP and NGOs. Its key themes were sustainable infrastructure, connectivity and building efficient and sustainable supply chains - key factors for long-term competitiveness and economic development.

The Forum was opened by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and Turkiye's Trade Minister Omer Bolat.

During the panel on “The Rise of Multimodal Corridors: Expanding Trade and Transport Connectivity”, Angelieva highlighted Bulgaria's active role in the development of regional transport corridors as an engine of economic integration and growth. She highlighted the country's participation in the Baltic-Black-Aegean Corridor and Corridor VIII, as well as the potential of the Bulgarian Black Sea ports of Varna and Burgas within the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.

In her speech, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister stressed the need for enhanced international cooperation, coordinated investments, harmonization of regulations and removal of trade barriers in order to fully realize the potential of the regional transport corridors.
