Grigor Dimitrov defeated the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 7:6 (7:4), 7:6 (7:2) in his first match of this year's Laver Cup, pitting teams from Europe and the rest of the world against each other.

The match started at 8 pm Bulgarian time on Friday in the Uber Arena in Berlin. Dimitrov, currently ranked 10th in the men's rankings, managed an impressive turnaround after trailing 1:5 in the second set, but managed to catch up and send the match to a tiebreak, where, despite physical discomfort, he managed to win.

The Bulgarian last took part in the Laver Cup in 2018 when he played one singles match against Frances Tiafoe and one doubles match with David Goffin helping Team Europe win the trophy against Team World.

In the current event, Dimintrov  took the place of Rafael Nadal, who was scheduled to play, and his win on Friday earned Team Europe a point.

According to the competition regulations, a victory in a match from the first day brings 1 point, one from the second  day brings 2 points, and one from the last third day brings 3 points. The ultimate winner is the first team to reach 13 points.
